Review:
I did not realize this book was based on a YouTube song, even though it was attached to the email for the book form the publicist (whoops). So this review is kind of a before and after reaction having seen it.

Before I knew this was a song, it was a bit weird. The story is about a young boy having a birthday party and he is so excited about his party and eating pizza at his party... and then something goes wrong and they can't have the pizza. That is when it starts raining tacos. Not very realistic, which is perfectly fine, but it seems so normal in the beginning that the raining tacos is a bit odd. It also has a  rhyme scheme that at some points worked well and at others seemed to be broken and not follow it.

Knowing the song now, it makes a bit more sense, that there is a rhyme built in for the song/ singing part, but if you don't know about the song that it just feels off and weird.

All that said, I am a lover of tacos... and birthdays ... and pizza and cake. So that is a big win from me. It was also illustrated in a a fun way with bright colors and bold shapes which were nice to look at and follow the story. It is very silly but also a good chance to teach young kids about adapting and changing if things go wrong, granted it isn't going to magically rain tacos to solve the problem but it is fun to think about.
