Release Blast: Silver Screen by Sherilla Bilikofer

Silver Screen By Sheritta Bitikofer

About the Book

When Josie Carter found out she would be the head makeup artist for the famous Rodney Bator, it was hard not to be a little star struck. Working on her first big movie picture was a dream for the small town girl from Arkansas. But, her natural passion for acting has been pushed aside for many years now after the accident that killed her eldest sister. Seeing life through the lens of that tragedy had made her apprehensive to accept anything good, including the kindness and love of the incredible actor she worked with every day.
All Rodney ever wanted in life was to prove to other werewolves, like himself, that it was possible to live in the midst of humans and not have to worry about discovery. The old world superstitious ways were a thing of the past, but he still knew many of his kind that lived in hiding - including his own father. Sure that his message was only enraging the alphas of the world, Rodney was ready to hang up his actor hat and settle down. And he knew just who he wanted to settle down with.

About the Author

Sheritta Bitikofer is a paranormal romance author of eclectic tastes with a passion for storytelling. Her goal with each book is to rebel against shallow intimacy and inspire courage through the power of love and soulful passion. Her biggest thrill comes when she presents love in a genuine light, where the protagonists not only feel a physical attraction to one another, but a deep emotional (and dare we say spiritual?) connection that fuels their relationship forward into something that will endure much longer than the last pages of their novel. A devoted wife and fur-mama to two shelter rescue dogs, Sheritta’s life is never dull. When she’s not writing her next novel, she can be found binge-watching her favorite shows on Netflix, doing Zumba with her friends, or painting at a medieval reenactment event.

Goodreads Synopsis:
When best friends are not forever . . .

Shannon and Adrienne have been best friends ever since they were little. But one day, Adrienne starts hanging out with Jen, the most popular girl in class and the leader of a circle of friends called The Group. Everyone in The Group wants to be Jen's #1, and some girls would do anything to stay on top . . . even if it means bullying others.

Now every day is like a roller coaster for Shannon. Will she and Adrienne stay friends? Can she stand up for herself? And is she in The Group—or out?

Newbery Honor author Shannon Hale and New York Times bestselling illustrator LeUyen Pham join forces in this graphic memoir about how hard it is to find your real friends—and why it's worth the journey.

Review:
This middle grade graphic novel was an earnest depiction of how friendships change and grow as we get older. Told from the point of view of Shannon, we encounter her friends as she progresses through school. There is bullying and transformation of people throughout this novel and it is very honest.

The story is about friendship but also about learning to adapt and stand up for yourself and do what you think is right for you but also for those around you. It was a realistic account told in wonderful images of Shannon and her life.

I think that this book will be enjoyed by both girls and boys because of how engaging it is, there is something for everyone here.  A wonderful read!

Goodreads Synopsis:
“RED MEAT”! Red Tool lives up to his name and Poison Ivy drops by as Harley investigates what is happening to New York’s disappearing homeless population!

Mini Review:
This issue was the beginning to a new story line in the Harley comics, those doors in the basement from a few issues back - they are coming into play now that the Joker is out of the picture again. Harley has to deal with a new crazy trying to take over the world, it is her fault he is out, and all the while something is happening in the city to the homeless populations.

While trying to save the planet we meet a new hero, even if briefly, and we also see that Harley Sinn is somehow coming back into the fold. This was a good issue, there were a lot of starting points for various things and it was good to see something come out of those creepy doors (finally, and literally - haha).

FYI: The above synopsis is the only one I can find, but it is actually a bit off and I feel like there was a slight error there.

Goodreads Synopsis:
“Joker Loves Harley” finale! Just how did a gentle, “reformed” Joker come to arrive at Harley’s doorstep when everyone believed him dead and gone? The answer’s in this issue-and it’ll shock you!
Mini Review:
Craziest twist ever! I don't want to say any more than that but WOW this was a ridiculous issue. I have had this one for a while and forgotten to read it so when I went to pick up the rest of my comics I had to track it down. I am glad that I did too! I like the way that Harley handles herself and the situation and the overall theme is pulled together really well and even pulls from previous issues from before the Rebirth series.

This was a great finale for this storyline and it was SO surprising!

Goodreads Synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of plague-ravaged Europe, this spellbinding new novel from one of Canada's foremost writers of historical fiction for young people will have readers racing to the electrifying climax.

Seventeen-year-old Natan has a safe and happy life in fourteenth-century Strasbourg, France. He works with his father in his rag trade, helps his mother around the house, and studies the Torah at night with his young brother, Shmuli. He's even feeling the first stirrings of love with Elena, the daughter of the master draper who is his father's best customer.

But something is rotten in the streets of Strasbourg. There is tension between the Jewish community and the rest of the citizens, and there is fear as the deadly plague sweeps through towns and cities nearby. When rumors begin to circulate that Jewish residents are contaminating the town's well water to try to hasten the plague's arrival in their city, Natan knows that there are dangerous days ahead. When he sees who really poisoned Strasbourg's water, he is determined to speak the truth and save his people from the false accusations being made against them. But a moment of violence threatens to derail his plans and change his life in ways he could never have imagined."
Review:
This book was not what I expected in a wonderful way. It is about a Jewish boy in France who falls in love with a non-Jewish girl and then finds out something that gets him killed. The story overall is about the persecution of the Jewish population during the plagues. Many Jewish people were thought to have brought the plague to others since less Jewish people were dying from it, that is not to say that none died, but in a time when people had no idea about disease and how it spread if a population was doing better than others - it was their fault.

Another Me follows Natan as he works with his father and meets a young girl, they are drawn together and while out late one night visiting her he notices some people poisoning the community well - they are dropping in rotting food, feces and even killing a cat. Knowing that this cannot be helping the plague that is ruining other cities, Natan tries to do something about it. In the process, he dies, BUT his spirit is still around trying to tell someone what has happened and who should be blamed.

The story has a lot of sadness and the unfair treatment of many people, but there is also bravery and love and some hope through it all. It was a very good read. It is fiction but everything seemed like it could/would happen during this period in history.
