PRODIGAL:

STEIN has been with the Hollows for as long as she can remember. Taken as a child, she has no memories of her past, and that's always been fine by her. Until the day she stumbles across a hidden journal containing the devastating truth about her paternity. Now everything she thought she knew, and everyone she thought she could trust, has changed. The truth about who she is and where she came from is a secret so deep, it will rock the Hollows and the Tesla Institute alike.

Prodigal (The Lost Imperials, #2)

Prodigal is the follow-up to Extracted, and instead of following Lex and Ember we get a better look at Stein, Lex’s girlfriend. In this installment we learn more about her and her background – as we did with Lex and Ember and their memories, only we do so now through history. Stein is trying to understand where she comes from and as readers awe are along for the ride.

After reading about Stein in book 1, I expected a lot of sarcasm, hardness, and butt-kicking instead she becomes more real – emotional and stressed, but still badass.  The plot of this book was very different than that of the first. There was a lot more emotion to start and then the action came at the very end a bit of the reverse of Extracted. There were so many revelations in this book it is a bit hard to review - I don't want to spoil any of the happenings from Book 1 or this one.

Stein’s story was a wonderful one, it was interesting and deep and a little strange, all great things when it comes to developing a character. I wanted to learn more about her (and what happens at the end of the book! – not saying anything to spoil it though). I am happy that Prodigal and Riven are companion books!

RIVEN:

ETHAN is left with a serious problem after what should have been a routine mission. He's fractured, a break between mind and body that leaves him at the mercy of his Rifter abilities, which are quickly tearing him apart. He will have to trust the only person who might know how to fix him, a mysterious Rifter named Stewart Stills, who seems to have a special connection with the time stream.

Riven (The Lost Imperials, #3) Oh my goodness, I started reading Riven expecting to not enjoy this installment like I had the former two, but OMG! SO GOOD! I love this series SO much.

Riven is a companion to Prodigal so there is a lot of the same beginning text, the first few chapters are almost exactly the same except told from Ethan's point of view instead of Stein's. Then they branch, Stein goes one way and Ethan another and so we follow Ethan - an boy are there a lot of twists in this one. I thought that Stein's background was amazing but so was Ethan's and it was not expected AT ALL! I can't go into more detail - too many spoilers, but Ethan's life is just as amazing as Lex, Ember, and Stein's, if not more so.

Once again the characters were wonderful - Lex and Ember are still around and it is interested to see these characters from the other character's points of view - especially since we have been reading as them in the first book. Lex seems to be overly impulsive in this installment, whereas in the first book he seems that way but since you are reading as him it feels more justified- here he just seems childish.

I really am liking how the authors are forming this world and the characters, I love it all so much! Cannot wait for more!

Want to know more about The Lost Imperials Series? Check out below:

In a battle for control of the time stream, the past and the future will collide, either saving mankind, or destroying it. The Tesla Institute stands on one side of the battle. Controlled by the mind of one of the greatest inventors in history, the Institute recruits gifted, young time travelers called Rifters. Those who survive his training are sent into history with the mission to preserve the time stream, recruit more of their kind, and better humanity through subtle, controlled event manipulation. Standing in the way are the Hollows, a rogue group of Rifters who have vowed to put an end to the Tesla Institute, at all costs. They steal, cheat, and bend history to their own ends. Using children stolen from time as their personal armies, they fight not only for control of time itself, but also for self-preservation.
