Ice Cream Work was a very strange book - it is simple and follows an ice cream man as he goes from job to job. I didn't really know what I was starting to read when I began but the cover was cute and I was curious. I had no idea going into this that it was sand art - and knowing that I am SO impressed but this artist and author. There is so much detail in this book and I am thoroughly amused and amazed by her skill. The book is very short and includes a small search and find feature at the end, kind of in the style of Where's Waldo. 

The story is unique and fun, showing pictures as normal, then as ice cream man performs his job and they become playful and whimsical. I think young readers will find this book very fun and funny to read and look at. This would be a fun book to read and then do some sand art afterward. (Yay for crafts).

About the Author:

Naoshi is an internationally acclaimed Japanese illustrator whose distinctive characters and original style are recognized around the world. She uses  shiny colorful sand to create surreal people living  in the real world. She has participated in a wide range of projects including gallery exhibitions, commercial work, and children’s workshops. Naoshi is a Tokyo based artist currently living in Los Angeles.
