The Demigod Diaries: The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan
Publisher: Random House Audio
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Background: A collection of short stories that delve into the lives of the characters from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus series. The collection includes a passage from Luke's diary, a Percy Jackson adventure, a tale about Leo at Camp Half Blood, and a debut story from Rick's son Haley, called Son of Magic.
Review: I was laughing so hard in my car while listening to these tales, I was on the edge of my seat at other times, and I loved listening to this collection. I read all of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and loved them, the adventure, suspense, mystery, and characters blew me away; and the shorts about Luke and Percy in The Demigod Diaries, were exactly like I expected. WONDERFUL and insightful. You learn more about the characters, in Luke's diary, we hear about him and Talia before they get to Camp Half Blood. In Percy's story, there is insight into what is happening after the fight for Olympus, and the drama to come in the Heroes of Olympus series.
I haven't read the Heroes books yet, but apparently I really need to start, because Leo's story was the one that had be laughing. I am pretty sure the best was a quote about killing everything and having nutmeg...you'll see, it's an LOL moment.
As for Son of Magic, I was in awe of Haley's writing talent. You can tell the differences he has from his father, and I was blow away by his amazing story telling. In this story you learn about why monsters can sense Demi-gods and how they got their power. It was mysterious and suspenseful the whole way through, and you really want to kill the monster causing all the chaos.
Even if you have not read the series, go grab this, the short stories are easy to get through and explain themselves well.
