Background: Hugo Cabret is an orphan, his father passed away in a devastating and untimely fire, and his uncle stopped coming home one day. Hugo is left to tend to the clocks his uncle once kept for the train station, however he also has a secret…he as a marvelous machine. An automaton. It only needs to be rebuilt.

Review: I am so glad my younger brother was reading this book. He told me it was "the most awesome book ever, and it has pictures" so I picked it up. The Invention of Hugo Cabret is not a new book, but it is a classic for young readers, grades 3-6, maybe a little older. Selznick captures the essence of a young boy without a family, who turns to machines and routine to live his life as normally as he can. It chronicles how he finds an amazing machine and rebuilds it to solve the mystery of whose it was at the beginning.
The illustrations are beautiful and it is not only a book but you also feel like you are watching the events unfold through the images...so good!
