About the Book

In a house built on the sins of its past, where the walls conceal dark secrets and silence every scream, love may be her only salvation.

When single mother Zellie Dupont loses her last source of stability and is left with nothing but grief, debt, and a sick child she’s terrified of failing, desperation drives her to accept a stranger’s offer of refuge in a crumbling Savannah mansion.

But Dawes House is no ordinary home.

Once a grand estate, now faded grandeur shrouded in moss and mystery, the mansion is cold in ways it shouldn’t be, disquieting in ways Zellie can’t ignore. Yet her new neighbors welcome her like kin, offering the warmth and belonging she’s always yearned for. And her enigmatic benefactor possesses a quiet, wounded tenderness that draws her nearer with every stolen moment, kindling a desire she feels down to her bones—intense and undeniable.

But with every passing day in the house, the shadows creep closer. Footsteps echo in empty rooms. Ghostly whispers brush her ear. Visions of women cry out with silent mouths—women who loved, who suffered, and who failed to escape the house that claimed them.

As the mansion’s past unravels, Zellie is pulled into a dark history of misery, longing, and ghostly vengeance…and toward a truth that could devour her exactly like it did the women before her.

Because in Dawes House, nothing stays buried.

Not love.
Not betrayal.
And not the dead.

Perfect for readers of Southern Gothic fiction, atmospheric ghost stories, paranormal suspense, Gothic romance, and slow‑burn supernatural thrillers.

Available in KindleUnlimited and paperback.

From Chapter One:

I peered at Henry as he slept, his fever lower now that he’d had two days of antibiotics. Missing two shifts to stay home with him meant my paycheck would be a joke. But I’d had no choice. Ms. Reba next door couldn’t risk catching anything at her age.

I kissed Henry’s forehead and brushed his hair back from his face, then took a seat at the little kitchen table a few feet away. Whit Proffitt would be calling soon for my answer. Too bad I still didn’t know what I was going to tell him. There was really only one option I hadn’t already explored, and just the thought of it made me queasy as painful memories bombarded me. But I needed to be sure I’d looked into every possibility before accepting an offer from a complete stranger.

The devil you know…

I held my phone in both hands, staring at the number on the screen for several minutes, indecision making my heart pound. Finally, I exhaled hard and hit the call button.

“Screw it.”

The phone rang. Once. Twice. No answer. I wasn’t surprised—and was actually a little relieved.

I was about to hang up when a voice like sandpaper on concrete said, “Hello?”

My stomach dropped.

The last time I’d heard my mother’s voice, she’d called me a whore and told me to get the fuck out. Hearing it again cracked open an old, festering wound that I’d told myself had scarred over when I’d cut her out of my life.

I swallowed hard. “Hi, Vivian. It’s Zellie.”

A long, heavy pause. “Well, you’ve got some nerve calling after all these years.”

“You didn’t want to talk to me,” I reminded her, bristling. “You told me I was a sinner, that I was going to burn in hell. I didn’t think you’d really welcome a call.”

“And what makes you think I want to talk to you now?” A hacking cough erupted from her, choking the last word to little more than a gasp.

“You sound like shit,” I said. “Are you still smoking?”

Another grating cough that ended on a rattle. “What the hell do you care?”

I repressed a sigh. I didn’t. At least, I didn’t want to.

“I didn’t call to fight, Vivian,” I said, trying to keep a lifetime of anger and bitterness out of my voice. “I just…”

“What?” she asked, her laugh a raspy, eerie cackle. “You in trouble again? Crawling back with your tail tucked ’tween your legs, begging for help?”

I should’ve known calling was pointless. For a moment, I’d wondered if maybe Vivian Dupont had changed, if perhaps she regretted how she’d driven me away and had missed out on her grandson, if maybe she’d take us in, just until I found something else. But I should’ve known how it would go. The woman who considered herself a “good Christian” because she went to church every Sunday didn’t do kindness. Vivian Dupont only did scripture, punishment, and shame.

“I’m not begging,” I told her, no longer the little girl pleading for scraps of affection. “And I’m sure as hell not asking you for anything ever again.”

“Well, that’s a switch.” I could hear my mother flicking her Bic, lighting up another cigarette, and easily pictured her sucking in her first drag, her already sunken cheeks hollowing further, her eyes narrowed in habitual contempt.

“You know, all I ever wanted was for you to be my mother,” I said, the words bitter on my tongue. “Apparently, that was just too much to ask.”

Her derisive snort was loud in my ear. “I never wanted to be a mother. But God had other plans for me. ‘I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.’ That’s Romans 8:18. You’d know that if you’d ever listened to a damned word I said.”

“For fuck’s sake,” I muttered, a familiar anger clawing at my gut. I made my decision. “Save your sanctimonious bullshit, Vivian. I’m just letting you know I’m leaving. Henry and I are moving to Savannah.”

“Well, guess you’d better get to packing,” she said flatly.

“Guess so.” I laughed in a short, humorless burst. “And don’t worry. You won’t be hearing from me again.”

Vivian started to say something, but whatever hateful comment she’d planned was cut off by another harsh cough.

I hung up.

Frowning, I replayed the conversation in my head, the familiar sting of rejection warring with resigned indifference.

I turned slowly, taking inventory of the contents of the tiny house. Not much to pack—Henry’s toys, some clothes, a few boxes of books, the thrift-store art on the wall…

Just as well. The sooner I got the hell out of there, the better.

Still, the idea of starting over—leaving behind everything I’d managed to build, the meager support I’d gathered, the few friends I’d made—sent a wave of anxiety crashing over me.

I rushed to the kitchen sink and leaned against it, squeezing my eyes shut to fight the sudden urge to throw up. I didn’t normally feel stress in my stomach. But it wasn’t like anything was normal at the moment, so why should my body’s reaction to my world falling apart be any different?

When the nausea subsided, I took a few deep breaths and opened my eyes. Through the tiny window, night settled over my little world like a shroud, the darkness pressing close, heavy with silence. The kind of silence that felt…ominous.

My mouth suddenly dry, I exhaled a shaky breath and grabbed a glass from the cabinet.

When I turned back toward the window, the glass slipped from my hand and shattered in the sink, shards skittering like tiny bones across the porcelain.

For a heartbeat, I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. I could only stare as two glowing silver eyes glared back at me through the reflection: a woman’s face, pale and blurred at the edges, like an old photo negative. And those eyes locked on mine. Furious. Vengeful.

Her mouth opened in a silent scream, jaw unhinging wider than it should, and she rushed toward me, her fingers curled into claws.

Instinct snapped me free of my paralysis. I spun, bracing for her to be just inches behind me, to grab me, tear into me.

But the kitchen was empty.

No movement. No sound except for the hammering of my heart.

The window air conditioner clicked on, wheezing from its efforts to combat the spring heat, the suddenness of it shattering the silence and spurring me into action.

I lurched to the window, yanking the blinds down with shaking hands, the slats clattering into place, then stumbled across the room, checking other windows, locks, anything that could keep something out—even though I knew nothing truly could.

I flipped every light switch within reach. Warm light banished the darkness but still didn’t seem bright enough when I pressed into a corner so I could see every inch of the room. Shaking, I slid to the floor and pulled my knees to my chest, arms wrapped tight, watching.

When nothing else appeared after several minutes, I squeezed my eyes shut and pressed my forehead to my knees.

The intruders.

They’d found me again.

They’d haunted me since childhood, no matter where my mother had dragged me. I called them intruders because they forced themselves into my awareness, but I didn’t know if they were ghosts, portends, or something else entirely. Vivian had called them demons and punished me whenever I mentioned them, convinced that it was my wickedness that drew them.

So many hungry nights, my grumbling stomach keeping me awake because Vivian believed fasting would “starve out” the demons. So many ice baths that left me gasping and crying because she insisted that making my little body inhospitable would send the demons away. So many prayer circles and “healings” from religious charlatans that were supposed to cleanse my soul…

So, I had closed myself to the intruders, forced them away, ignored the whispers, the messages, the shadows in the corner of my eye—until they no longer came.

Until now.

God. Damn. It.

A soft voice broke through my panic.

“Mama?”

Henry stood near the couch, eyes wide and scared, curls mussed from sleep.

“It’s okay, baby,” I assured him. “I just thought I saw something scary. That’s all.”

I leaned my head back against the wall, closing my eyes once more and taking a deep, calming breath. And then another.

His bare feet padded closer. Even though I expected him, I still flinched when he touched my arm.

“You’ll be okay,” he said, as if our roles had reversed. “Don’t be scared, Mama.”

I forced a smile and smoothed his curls from his eyes.

He sat down beside me, taking my hand in his. “I’ll hold your hand,” he whispered. “That will make it better.”

My laugh came out trembly, edged with tears. “Thanks, baby.” I pulled him into my lap. “That does make it better. How about if we snuggle for a little while until you go back to sleep?”

He nodded and curled against me, warm and solid, pushing the fear back into the familiar little box where I kept it buried.

When his breathing went soft and deep, I carried him to his bed and kissed his forehead.

As I exited his room, the kitchen light flickered—just once—and my stomach tightened. But nothing else stirred.

I found my phone where it had fallen earlier and dialed a number. It rang only once before a deep voice answered.

“Ms. Dupont?”

I swallowed hard, scanning the room, searching for anything that shouldn’t be there.

“I accept your offer, Mr. Proffitt.” My voice came out hollow, flat as I fought to keep it even. “How quickly can we move in?”

About the Book:
If loving one hockey player is reckless . . . loving two is irresistible.

After enough heartache to last a lifetime, I made a rule:
No men.
No hookups.
No distractions.

Then I walked into the Ivywood Wolves’ ice rink.

Dylan Crawley is the golden-boy captain — cocky grin, effortless charisma, and used to winning on, and off, the ice.

Torin Anderson is the grumpy enforcer — dark eyes, rough edges, The kind of man who doesn’t smile . . . but makes you feel everything.

One is all swagger.
One is all silence.
Both are completely off-limits.

Until the night they step in to protect me — like it’s instinct. Like I’m already theirs.

Dylan makes me laugh.
Torin makes me burn.
And when they decide they’re not competing . . . but sharing?

The rules shatter.

Now I’m caught between two possessive hockey gods who don’t play fair — and don’t plan on letting me go.

Maybe I should choose.
Maybe I can’t.
Maybe I don’t want to.

I had a good time with this why-choose hockey romance. This isn't the first one I have read but if you liked the vibes of Pucking Around by Emily Rath, you will enjoy this one as well.

Fawn is a romance writer who is researching hockey for her next book when she meets Dylan and Torin, they all hit it off pretty quickly in this spicy romance. Fawn has been through a lot: a bad relationship, helping her grandfather through his dementia, and now trying to write a book that she knows nothing about yet.. so that she has money for her grandfather's care.

Fawn’s growth was one of my favorite parts of the story. Her growth into herself and learning how to love who she is felt genuine. Dylan and Torin balanced her perfectly in that “two sides of the same coin” way: Dylan brings the chaos, charm, and lightness, while Torin is all quiet intensity and grounding presence. Together, they just work.

I also loved that we got all three POVs. Each voice felt distinct, which made it easy to stay immersed and connected to each character’s perspective. That said, Torin calls her 'baby' waaaaaay too frequently and it was kid of repetitive at times to the point of breaking me out of the story.

The third-act inevitable break-up definitely delivered. I went in expecting something to shake things up between the three of them, but what actually happened caught me off guard... in a good way. It added just the right amount of tension without taking away from the romance.

Speaking of romance… it was cute, but also very spicy. Fawn wasn't expecting to find one person that she would have strong feelings for, let alone two and things really start heating up around the 40% mark, so be ready for it.

Overall, this was a solid why-choose romance with strong character dynamics, good emotional payoff, and plenty of heat. If you are loving hockey romance right now, enjoy men that fall hard, and a heroine finding her strength, this one’s worth picking up.

About the Book

❤️  Enemies-to-lovers

❤️  Second-chance

❤️  Small-town

❤️  Forced Proximity

❤️  New beginnings

After losing the career she built her life around, Flora Fraser retreats to her grandmother’s lakeside cottage in Rowan Bay for the summer.

Rowan Bay offers peace, kindness . . . and Brodie Robertson.

Brodie is infuriatingly self-assured, impossibly charming, and far too rooted in village life to fit into Flora’s temporary plans. Their first encounters spark with friction — and he always seems to be around when things go wrong.

For Flora, it can’t get worse — until she and Brodie find themselves working together. What begins as a battle of wills slowly deepens into attraction, one that becomes harder to resist with every day.

As summer unfolds, mornings spent swimming in the loch, evenings filled with laughter and long walks under starry skies, begin to heal parts of Flora she thought she’d lost. Rowan Bay feels less like a refuge — and more like home.

But Flora has always believed her stay to be temporary. And Brodie belongs here.

When the time comes for Flora to leave, both must decide whether this was simply a fleeting escape — or the beginning of something that could last beyond one perfect summer.

Rating:

This book was both enjoyable but a bit slow for me in the pacing department. The story follows Flora, who heads to her grandmother’s home in Rowan Bay for the summer after losing her job. Her plan to be there for a summer reset slowly shifts when she meets Brodie, the local handyman who seems to help everyone in the village and also volunteers with the loch rescue squad. Their relationship builds gradually as the summer unfolds, creating a sweet, slow-burn romance.

The romance itself was heartwarming and charming, but I struggled a bit to fully connect with the characters. Both Flora and Brodie felt somewhat underdeveloped. There were moments where they seemed to realize important things about themselves but instead of being explored more deeply, they were glossed over pretty quickly. So, I found it a little hard to fully lose myself in the story.

That said, the overall vibe of the book was very cozy. I enjoyed the scenes of Flora helping her grandmother and settling into summer life in Rowan Bay. The other villagers were great additions to the story, and the quieter moments with Iris added warmth to the story. All of this made the setting feel comforting and inviting. The romance is definitely on the sweeter side, with a friendly slow-burn and closed-door/off-page spice.

One thing that did catch me off guard was the inclusion of a POV storyline from Grandma Iris. While I enjoyed it, it felt a bit unexpected in the middle of a romance focused on Flora and Brodie, and it also kind of broke me out of the story whenever it popped in. I otherwise liked the dual POV from Flora and Brodie overall.

This is the second book in a series, and I didn’t read the first installment, so it’s possible there were some connections or character background that I was missing, so some things might be missing the mark for me because of that. Overall, it was a cozy and pleasant read and definitely put me in the mood for some summer sunshine and warmth.

🔥        Sizzling heat
🔥        Mystery
🔥        Forced Proximity
🔥        Brooding hero

I came to Fire Lake to outrun my past.

A broken-down car, an empty wallet and one loyal dog — that’s all I had when I stumbled into this small town I didn’t plan to stay in.

Then I met Gus Lawson.

Ex–Navy SEAL. Carpenter. Six-foot-five of trouble wrapped in muscle and quiet control. He’s the kind of man who can fix anything — except whatever’s broken inside him.

I tell myself I don’t care. But every time his gaze finds mine, my resolve cracks a little more.

His touch scorches. His kiss tastes like danger. And when he says my name, I forget every reason I ever had to run.

He’s not the kind of man you fall for — he’s the kind you burn for.
And I’m already going up in flames.

This small-town romance, packed with sizzling heat and mystery is perfect for fans of Elsie Silver, Catherine Cowles, Paisley Hope, Samantha Christy, Lyla Sage and Elle Nicoll.

Rating:

Catch the Flame is a romance about Faith and Gus, one running from their past, and another running toward it. They find themselves in Fire Lake dealing with their own personal issues, and both with a lot of family drama driving them.

Faith has come to Fire Lake to get away from her life and start over. She has her dog Taco and she is apprehensive but determined to make it on her own. Her personality is guarded, but she tries to stay in good spirits.  Gus is a grump, he came to town possibly to confront his past, but he isn't really sure yet. He is a loner and although hot according to most of the town, not interested in anyone or anything really.

They are forced together by the town, Faith needs a ride and they are living in the same location, and from there they find themselves drawn to each other more regularly. Both unwilling to give up anything about themselves or why they are in Fire Lake.

This was a cute romance, slow to get going with lots of secrets, the tension between the MCs was well done. At about the half way point we start to see the forced-proximity take effect and from there Gus and Faith are fireworks for each other.

The story is told in alternating POVs and there are a bunch of interesting side characters  (making this a great location for lots of romance opportunities for the author?). The pacing is steady, it did take a few chapters for me to feel 'in it.' The chemistry between the characters was good and I always appreciate a broody man. I am not sure I would go as far as to calling Faith "sunshine" to his grump, but together they are adorable.

While the family drama was a main piece of both characters, I feel like the ending was a bit rushed. Especially for Faith. Her resolution seemed too quickly concluded, while Gus' seemed to take more priority.

Overall, the story was a good one. I liked that there was mystery between them and they were still able to find each other and fall for each other. Super cute romance with a bit of spice. If you like a small-town romance with a bit of mystery/ false identity and a dog that really steals the show, this one might be for you.

Join Sox in an adventure with crashes, chases, sizzles and giggles along the way.
Rating:

Sox in a Sizzle is a children's book about Sox, who from the synopsis, we learn is a microbe. We are thrown into a story of Sox falling into something and then being confused, taking things literally, and then meeting some new friends.

The illustrations are charming. Sox is a light purple spikey ball shape and wears some amazingly long and fashionable socks, offering a fun dose of whimsical but also cause them some issues. The background images are watercolor explosions of pastels that are a bit on the abstract, so they are visually appealing but also grab your attention. Each spread has a page of short text next to a fun image of the scene being set.

While visually very pretty, I found the overall story a bit confusing. We really don't learn what Sox is, or where they are from the story itself. Luckily, the synopsis shares that information. I am also not sure how well younger readers will grasp the idea of a microbe, and further explanation will likely be required from the parental readers on this one. I think it could be a great learning opportunity for parents and young readers, but feel like the story itself lacks in that way.

Where I think the story excels is through its creativity. It creates fun and new types of characters for children to read about and ask questions about. I appreciated that it was a quick read, and full expect that these characters are going to get up to fun things in later books (should they come). The text was fun to read and I think readers will enjoy the rhyming throughout.

Overall, this was a cute and inventive story with a lot of charm, even if some parts left me wanting more clarity. I think young readers will enjoy the characters and playfulness of the story.

Review:

The Christmas Book Club is a cozy, second-chance holiday romance set in the charming Cornish village of Penworthal. While it’s technically the second in a series, it reads perfectly well as a standalone since each book focuses on different residents of the same delightful village.

This time we follow Tamara, a mother (although her son is an adult now) with dreams of opening her own café, and Gage, a former Marine new to town who’s opening a bookshop. Their paths cross easily in this small village, where gossip is always the best news, and while the first impression is meh, it slowly turns into friendship and then more.

I’ll admit, the pacing felt very slow at times, and I didn’t quite connect with Tamara as much as I hoped. Gage, on the other hand, was a high point and I enjoyed watching him gradually open up and find his place in the community. I loved that he had a passion for history and books and was learning more and more about himself as the story progressed. If not for him, I probably would have given up. Tamara, is a strong and strong-willed independent woman and her guard is up a lot, so she comes off as rude a lot of the time... likely to keep herself safe. Sadly, that also just rubbed me the wrong way as I was reading her character at times too though.

The romance was sweet, if not especially swoony, and the festive holiday backdrop added a nice seasonal touch. I appreciated that the author took us through a few months of them learning about each other, so different from the insta-love of so many romance books right now. We see them flirting through Halloween, and working together through November, then on into Christmas.

Overall, The Christmas Book Club is a gentle, heartwarming story perfect for readers who love small-town charm, second chances, and the comforting feel of a Hallmark-style holiday romance.

About the Book
A trip to remember — with the man she can’t forgive . . . or forget.

Jules, Silas, and Grant were once inseparable — until Jules and Grant got engaged, Silas inherited a billion-dollar empire and everything fell apart.

Then the unthinkable happens. Grant is gone. And Jules is alone.

Now the only person who can help her heal is the one man she swore to hate — Silas, the best friend she pushed away.

Silas has loved Jules since he first set eyes on her. But he lost her to his best friend. And now he’s lost his best friend to something his money couldn’t fix.

But a letter arrives. Grant’s final request: Show Jules how to live again.

Silas must take Jules on the adventure she’s always dreamed of . . . with the man she hates most in the world.

From golden Spanish sunsets to the sparkling coast of Amalfi and the magic of Parisian nights, Jules wants nothing to do with Silas. But there is a thin line between love and hate. And somewhere along the way, the man she left behind, begins to look a lot like the one she can’t live without.

This steamy enemies-to-lovers, billionaire romance full of sizzling tension, heart-melting emotion and a chemistry that doesn’t fade with time, is perfect for fans of Hannah Grace, Susie Tate, Carrie Elks, Emma Lucy, Laurie Gilmore, Emily Henry and Bal Khabra.

Rating:

This was a charming enemies-to-lovers romance that was layered with so much emotion. But at its core, it’s about grief, forgiveness, and finding joy again after loss, even if that means spending a time with your most hated person.

Jules is still reeling from the death of her fiancé and best friend, Grant. But his loss isn’t the only one she’s carrying, she’s also estranged from Silas, their other best friend, after his father’s death and sudden inheritance left him spiraling out of control. He essentially lost his way and Grant and Jules seemingly were pre-occupied with their lives to full grasp/ help him.

A year after Grant's unexpected death, Jules and Silas are thrown together on a trip of a lifetime, following his final wishes. Along the way, they’re forced to confront old wounds, blame and resentment, and the possibility of something more.

I appreciated that this story didn’t shy away from the messy dynamics of friendship and grief. Jules blames Silas for a lot, and to be fair, he did spiral and become difficult. But it also felt like Jules and Grant didn’t fully show up for him in his darkest moments either. That tension made the heavy parts of the plot especially heavy, but the reconciliation and the slow shift from enemies to something deeper was all the more enjoyable because of it.

There were some steamy romance bits, but what really stood out was the emotional journey. Watching Jules and Silas learn to see each other again, not just through the lens of their past, but with fresh eyes, made this a really touching read. I appreciated the letters grant left along their journey and the part he played in reconnecting his two loves.

Parker does a great job writing these somewhat 'broken' women and building them back up, through friendship, love, and adventure. While the premises, i.e. whirlwind trips around Europe, might be far-fetched, the overall messages really hit home.

Overall, this was a great read. The whole Off Limits trilogy had been wonderful and each book full sweeps me away into it. This one more tearful than the others but still just as fun - highly recommend them all.
