Goodreads Synopsis:
The definitive reflection of what it is to be a dog owner/parent, from dog park politics to inevitable messes and all the fun and love in between. Written and illustrated by two of The New Yorker magazine's best-loved cartoonists, You're Not a Real Dog Owner Until... is a must for any dog lover.

This book presents a delightful collection of observations about having a dog from award-winning comedian/cartoonist duo Scott Dooley and Jason Chatfield. These hilarious cartoons pair New Yorker-style illustrations with relatable details about having a dog. For example, you're not a real dog owner until...

•  You have to nix the word "walk" from your vocabulary as if it holds dark magical powers.
•  There are dog park friends who you only know by their dog’s name.
•  You've had to mediate a cease-fire between your dog and the Roomba.
•  Your dog has "protected you loudly" from thousands of "potential intruders" who've dared to walk past your front door (Most often during Zoom calls).
•  Your dog eats a healthier, more balanced and nutrient-rich diet than you have ever eaten in your life.
•  You have a voice you only use with your dog
•  You also have a voice for your dog.

A cross between The Far Side and For Dummies, this series offers insights into worlds we live in, whether it's where you live, what you love or even who you are, the "You're Not a Real..." series lets you know you're not alone in doing things some may think are crazy that are totally normal to you and your tribe!
Review:
This adorable collection of comics is a love letter to life with dogs—full of sweet, funny, and oh-so-relatable observations that will make any dog owner smile (and maybe tear up a little too). From the quirks of different breeds to the unique bond between dogs and humans, each page offering a moment of joy or.... reflection. Sometimes hitting a bit too close to home.

The illustrations are charming yest simple, and it was fun to see all the different depictions of dogs and their owners. Some comics felt like they were pulled straight from my own life, while others will definitely strike a chord with fellow dog lovers depending on their experiences. There's also a mini story threaded throughout that quietly builds to a heartfelt moment—it’s subtle but powerful, and it definitely tugged at my heartstrings.

This is a super quick, easy read that’s perfect for picking up when you need a smile. I’d absolutely recommend it as a giftable book for any dog owner or animal lover. It’s a lovely little celebration of the joy (and occasional chaos!) our four-legged friends bring into our lives.

Synopsis:
Althalia Cabrera might seem like any other witchy Portland hipster whiling away her days behind the counter of a freaky occult museum, but there's more to her whole deal than a trendy pursuit of the craft. Althalia is a bruja by blood-the youngest in a long line of powerful magic users from a long-ago culture indigenous to Mexico. In her twenty years, Althalia has studied with her loving abuela by her side, supporting and mentoring her use of the family magic, and protecting her from the darkest parts of their practice's history. But just as Althalia's inner light and power begins to shine, the darkness of the past finds its way into her world and strikes a tragic blow, testing Althalia in ways she might not be prepared enough to survive.
Review:
Such an action packed first issue! There is immediately a fight scene to set the stage for this comic series, with a demon, a witch, a lizard man, and another teen that can shapeshift. Such an interesting way to begin a comic, we are thrust into a fight with characters that we dont' yet know but at least I was invested already.

The story itself is about a young witch (bruja translated to English for those that weren't sure), she is learning about her culture, heritage, and what it means to be a witch. Althalia seems so normal, but there is a lot to her background and we learn that she has a fair amount of pent-up anger as well.

In this first comic installment, we meet Althalia's grandmother who wants to go to a museum and while they are there horrible things happen, although I am not going to spoil it for you. This interaction left me with a lot of questions though, and I hope the series follows up with more action but also more depth and answers.

Overall, this was a fun comic, the illustraions were great and so vibrant, and the history molded with fantasy elements and legends were well done. I can't wait to read more from this series.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Tommy Siegel's Candy Hearts comics offer a hysterical window into the many ways romantic couples are not at all on the same page.

From the awkwardness of flirting during a pandemic to scrolling through disastrous dating profiles, Candy Hearts hilariously captures the secrets, lies, and misunderstandings behind every relationship. With dozens of never-before-seen comics and a special Candy Hearts sticker set, this book is the perfect Valentine’s Day (or Anti-Valentine’s Day) gift for your friends, lovers, or even yourself.

Review:
I came across this book on Netgalley while looking for books to read and it looked just enough funny and dark for my humor and it did not disappoint. I have a strong love for Candy Hearts in general both eating them (nom) but my husband also proposed using one, so they hold a special place in my heart.

Candy Hearts is all about internal dialogues and what you are thinking in different situations, but all the situations Siegel puts the hearts into turn out to be funny and awkward.

This book is for adult audiences due to its crass-ness and concepts. It is a series of comics where some are only one page and others go on for a few. They cover concepts of dating, online dating, being along, being with the right/wrong person, parenting, and just relationships overall.

The collection was fun, it was nothing amazing, but the jokes were funny. Some were laughable, others a bit too awkward for my liking (but that probably says something about me more than the book). This would be a fun one to read around Valentine's Day, I think it works for those in relationships and probably those not as well.

Goodreads Synopsis:
From the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Snug and the bestselling Little Moments of Love comes an all-new collection, In Love & Pajamas by Catana Chetwynd of Catana Comics!

When you've reached that sweatpants-wearing cozy place in your relationship, it's all In Love & Pajamas!  This brand-new collection of Catana Comics presents some fan favorites and half of the book features never-before-seen comics that delight and amuse readers of all ages.  Wholesome, sweet, feel-good humor!

Review:
Catana Comics makes me laugh out loud at all her perfectly accurate, realistic portrayals of life in a relationship. I love these so much because there are so many instances of "oh wow that is us" in it for me and on at least 5 occasions I shared the tiles with my husband as I LOLed about how true they were.

This collection is all about being together through the silly weird things that make you - you. It is almost overly cutesy, but it is because you feel the love and trust through the characters and it is a warm and fuzzy that I am loving from books at the moment. I found this book to be everything I needed and more, to both read but also to remind me of the love that I have and really appreciate it for all its weirdness.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is in love, still in love, needs a warm and fuzzy feeling, or as a gift for Valentine's Day. It is a precious and relatable collection that is perfect for Spring.

Goodreads Synopsis:
"A dry, sarcastic humor that hits you hard in the chuckles." — BoredPanda.com

This third collection from The Onion and the New Yorker contributor John McNamee features his most absurdly relatable comics on our futile attempts to seem “normal,” and why that’s hilarious.

Pie Comics began as a college comic strip way back in the mid ’00s, when flip phones roamed the earth. But after a shoulder injury forced cartoonist John McNamee to simplify his drawing style and improvise comics, Pie Comics evolved into the beloved strip it is today!

This third collection from The Onion and the New Yorker contributor features his most absurdly relatable comics on our futile attempts to look “normal,” and why that’s hilarious.
Review:
Just Act Normal is a compilation of webtoon comics all put into a book together. It is divided into a few sections of coping including: Coping with Childhood, Coping with Society, Coping with Work, Coping with Love, Coping with the World, and Coping with Yourself. It is as the synopsis notes - dry and very sarcastic and I think it takes a certain type of jaded/sarcastic reader to fully enjoy these types of comics (so obviously I enjoyed it).

Before this point, I had seen some of these comics online but not read any of them compiled like this. It was an interesting way to read them, because you can read a page or two and then leave/return to an all new strip. The strips are not consecutive and are all one-off quips and jokes or overly realistic and relatable tiles.

I think if  you are looking for a fun coffee-table addition, or are looking for an easy ready with a lot of sarcasm, this would be the book for you.

In celebration of International Wheelchair Day March 1, DC revealed the official trailer for the publisher’s highly anticipated young adult (YA) graphic novel, The Oracle Code, written by Marieke Nijkamp and illustrated by Manuel Preitano. Set within a mysterious thriller, this moving coming-of-age tale follows teenager Barbara Gordon as she adapts to a new normal after a tragic accident and begins her path to becoming Oracle, one of DC’s fiercest Super Heroes.
Nijkamp is the author of bestselling YA novels This Is Where It Ends and Before I Let Go and has built a celebrated career advocating for and writing stories that elevate disabled voices. She is the editor of the YA anthology Unbroken: 13 Stories Starring Disabled Teens, and is also a co-founder of We Need Diverse Books, a nonprofit organization created to promote diversity of multiple forms in children’s literature and publishing. The script really made me feel the mood of the scenes I was going to draw and we worked together to get the best out of each sequence.”

Nijkamp added, “Manuel’s art brought the story to life in a way that was beyond my wildest dreams. He got the characters from the very first sketch and his eye for detail made their whole world shine!”

“I hope readers will see the incredible work the whole team (writer, colorist, letterer, editors…and maybe this humble artist, too!) did with this book, reflected in every page!” said Preitano. “And I hope this will inspire them too!”

Goodreads Synopsis:

Cut off from the rest of the world, Diana had an idyllic childhood on Themyscira. But now 11-years-old, she's beginning to feel more and more isolated. Though she has many "aunties" and a loving mother, she is an only child. THE only child, in fact.
After an escapade goes wrong, Queen Hippolyta chastises Diana for not living up to the Amazon standard. Diana just can't seem to measure up, no matter what she does! Literally every other person on the island is an adult proficient in their trade and mighty in body, while she is gangly, sometimes clumsy, and not particularly proficient in anything. She's not Wonder Woman yet. What Diana needs is a friend; someone her own age whom she can talk to. But when she decides to take matters into her own hands — she may just make a monster instead.
Review:
Diana is the princess of the Amazons, which is amazing but also kind of lonely. While she is strong and brave, her mother doesn't have time for her and everyone is always busy completing their chores and tasks on the island of Themyscira.

This was a great middle grade graphic novel. Diana is a strong female character that all young girls and even young boys will enjoy. She is just a bit lonely, so she turns to a friend who might not be the best for her. When her friend leads her into trouble she now must choose between who she can be or her feelings of loneliness, luckily for all of Themyscira she is strong and strong-willed.

The images are very pretty and lend well to the story and the dialog is kept concise and simple enough at a glace to read through. The overall story was interesting and I liked following Diana's story. Her growth as a character was quick but meaningful and I think that all young readers will enjoy this graphic novel.

Goodreads Synopsis:

This year, Charlie Brown is determined to turn around his bad luck, lead his baseball team to victory, and fly his kite without interference from the dirty rotten kite-eating tree.

While Charlie Brown is all tied up, the rest of the gang doesn't hold back on having fun. Pig-Pen unexpectedly charms Peppermint Patty at the Valentine's dance, Marcie and Snoopy run a commercial airline, and Lucy tries her hardest to win Schroeder's affection. Whether you're safe on the ground or tangled up in a tree like Charlie Brown, you won't want to miss the fun in this latest Peanuts for kids adventure.
Review:
When I saw that they put out another installment of Charlie Brown, I was like, why not? But what can I say about it? Charlie Brown comic strips are classics, and this collection keeps to that classic feel. Charlie Brown is still getting bullied by Lucy, they are still trying to win a baseball game, and Snoopy still wants dinner. The comics are easy to read in this style, you can pick it up and put it down easily since it is not a long story, just snippets, and the colors are bright as they have been in the past when it was available in color.

If you are a fan of Charlie Brown and you like to have a fun coffee table book, this would be a great addition to your collection.

The collection is set up like the comic strips and so they are short and simple reads, and you can pick it up and put it down easily in between theses sections.

Like I mentioned Wallace is very funny, my favorite story was when he gets his head stick in a Jack-O-lantern and his dad has no idea how to get him out. This is just one example of the funny things that occur throughout the book, but it is also so down to earth and easy to picture these funny things actually happening.

I think adults without kids would enjoy this, I also think parents and their kids will enjoy this as a read.
