The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Publisher: Dutton
Publication Date: January 2012

Goodreads Synopsis:
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.
 Cecilia's Review:
Recently, I read The Fault in Our Stars, a book about a sixteen year-old girl named Hazel Grace who was diagnosed with severe lung cancer at the age of thirteen. Throughout her journey she meets several new faces, including one Augustus Walters, who had lost his lower leg in attempt to remove a tumor. As the story goes on their relationship grows and the readers understand their true feelings and how cancer can affect not only the victim, but their family and friends. The book admits the scary truth that everyone will die, but both Hazel and Augustus accept that fact and chose to embrace the good in every day. They have their ups and downs, but their love is stronger than you could ever imagine.

The Fault in Our Stars is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy all in one. It explains a heart-breaking story of a real life issue many are faced with today. The book itself is intelligent and is extremely well written. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a love story, with some laughs along the way. But also someone who isn’t against a good cry. Do you want to know the end of Hazel and Augustus’ story? Read the book and find out for yourself!

Cece's Corner -- Review: The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien

5907The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien: A Review
by Cece

In The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Bilbo Baggins' life is turned upside down. After an unexpected visit from the great wizard Gandolf, Mr. Baggins is surprised by a group of dwarves ready to begin an adventure. Mr. Baggins never would have expected what happened after accepting to join them. In a journey of a lifetime, they encounter terrifying life or death situations due to evil creatures and helpful fellows who pushed them through the hardships.

While reading The Hobbit I enjoyed the adventure at every corner. Throughout the book, I was on my toes nervously waiting for what happens next. Also, I liked how the author wrote Bilbo Baggins’ character. J. R. R. Tolkien did a great job describing the difficult situation Mr. Baggins was in. He had to change his lifestyle completely, getting rid of his handkerchief and fulfilling meals and trading them for long nights and vicious battles. Lastly, I did not like how there were so many dwarves. I quickly lost track of who was who and there were not many distinct characteristics between them, but only individual names.

Regardless of what I thought of the book, I think that people that love fascinating adventures with fantasy creatures would enjoy The Hobbit. This may include enjoyers of fantasy, people seeking adventure themselves, and geeks, nerds, and people that L.A.R.P in the park in their spare time.[1] These readers may appreciate this book considering it contains aspects of a genre they already enjoy.

Cecilia's Review: Small Medium at Large by Joanne Levy

Small Medium at LargeSmall Medium at Large by Joanne Levy
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Available: Now!!!

 Pages: 208, Hardcover

The below review and background summary are compliments of my sister Cecilia. She is in 6th grade and love to read. She is also her school's president and an awesome little sister. Please enjoy her just as amazing review of Small Medium at Large.

Background: This book is about a 12 year old girl named Lilah Bloom. In the story Lilah is struck by lightning and when struck develops a strange talent, she can speak to and hear the dead. When she receives the gift she immediately gets to speak to her dead grandmother Bubby Dora and some other interesting ghosts help Lilah through some tough times like producing a fashion show. Along with her extraordinary talent she also has to deal with her everyday middle school life including her love life and that definitely puts a lot of pressure on Lilah’s hands.

Review: I thought Small Medium at Large was a really entertaining book. I enjoyed the character’s fascinating personalities. I loved how all the characters had distinct and unique traits. Though I think the author should have added a certain town, state, or country just to be a bit more specific. Also, I enjoyed the different types of conflict that were placed in the story, like the relationship between Lilah and her soon to be friend Dolly Madison.*SPOILER ALERT*  One more thing, I enjoyed the twist at the end with Lilah’s dad and Andrew’s mom, I thought it was a clever and creative thing to do at the end of the book and it was a smart way to give Lilah’s single dad a date that he enjoys.

Copy was received from the author in exchange for an honest review.
